A Beginner’s Guide: Hidden Gems around Campus to Help You Lock-In

By Luvya Gambhir and Alexander Kuo

Dear Year 1 Juniors,

Wondering what facilities RI has? When you read this article and the subsequent ones, do look out for these three following characters to clarify any doubts you may have as you get used to being Rafflesian.

Hullett Memorial Library (HML)

At some point, you might feel this way. Fret not, as the HML can be your go-to place before examinations. HML is especially significant for Rafflesians, as it is Singapore’s oldest library and is named after RI’s longest-serving headmaster, Mr Richmond William Hullett. The HML has books compiled for Rafflesians each year, containing past EYE Papers. You may visit it before your WAs and scan some papers using your mobile phone. However, exercise discretion while doing so, as not all questions may be from the topics tested for your WA. You can consult your teachers after school to mark and review these past-year papers.

You may visit the library to enjoy a peaceful environment to complete your homework or pick out some books to make good use of your time. You can also ask the friendly librarians for reading suggestions. Their picks never disappoint!

Casco Bookshop

Many find themselves stuck in situations like these. Feel free to visit the bookshop on the Y5-6 campus to buy a new school badge. You may even want to buy a spare to keep in your pencil case. The bookshop sells uniforms, PE attire, and school socks.

From rulers to pens and textbooks, the school bookshop has everything you may need. The items are affordably priced and include well-known brands such as Zebra and Pilot, so you know you can count on the bookshop in any urgent stationery emergencies!

P.S.: Exclusive RI merchandise, such as Griffles Plushies, can also be found at the bookshop! If you’re in need of a special RI gift, why not take a trip to the bookshop and have a browse?

Atrium Round Tables

The round tables outside staff rooms 2 and 3 will be your go-to spot and are usually packed like sardines during test and exam seasons. Closer to your examinations, teachers may open slots for you to book appointments with them online. Additionally, if you need extra help understanding a particular concept, you can email them politely to request a consultation!

The Printing Shop

The printing shop is located at the Sheares Block on Level 2, in the first room from the link bridge that connects to the Yusof Ishak Block. For just two cents a page, you can print an A4-sized document in black and white, while A3 costs four cents per side. If you’re seeking colour printing instead, A4 and A3 printouts are 20 cents and 40 cents per page respectively. Accepted payment methods include EZ-Link and NETS. These prices are a bargain!

P.S: If you need cardboard for your projects, you can also ask for some cardboard boxes from the printer shop for free!
