Dear Year 1 Juniors,
In the last two articles, we discussed some of the Academic and Recreational Spots in RI. Haven’t checked them out yet? Click here!
Wondering what food and beverage facilities RI has to offer other than the Y1-4 canteen? Well, clarifying these doubts as you read through this article will be…

Chill @ RI

No problem! Just head to Chill@RI, which is located next to the swimming pool and behind the ARTSpace. If you pay a visit, you’ll understand why it’s known as “RI’s 7-Eleven”. Loaded with potato chips, candy, soft drinks, and even ice cream, Chill@RI is incredibly stocked with everything you could ever wish for. There are also snacks like hotdogs, which are limited and sell out quickly. However, there’s a unique snack on the menu that no other convenience store offers. You guessed it; we Rafflesians really love our waffles. It is no wonder many Rafflesians joke that RI should be renamed Waffles Institution. There are many different fillings that you can choose from like chocolate, blueberry, kaya and even ice cream! The waffles are crispy, sweet, and light– the perfect dessert! Chill is unrivalled in waffle-making! Moreover, the goods at Chill are extremely affordable, with some snacks costing a mere 50 cents. If you’re trying to save up and satisfy your hunger, Chill@RI is the ideal place for you to have fun savouring your favourite snacks for a reasonable price!

Chill actually has two locations, with the second one on the JC campus! It is located between the Eco-pond and the Y5-6 Canteen. If you need a quick snack before heading to Marymount MRT, Chill is there for you. This outlet closes earlier, at around 5 pm, so be sure to visit before it shuts.
(Fun fact: This space used to be a 7-Eleven! In 2014, the company chose not to renew its lease, and the space was then taken over by the same couple who run Chill@RI in the boarding complex.)

Professor Brawn Express Cafe

Other than the canteen, and Chill@RI, there is a third place where you can get delicious food and drinks. It’s Professor Brawn Express Cafe (PB). Although their main kitchen is on the JC campus, you can only purchase your meals from their pop up stand at the Raja Foyer. PB offers meals, sides, drinks, and desserts.
Most of their meals are Western or Japanese, such as their beef burger, mac and cheese, and their teriyaki chicken rice. Although PB’s meals are slightly more expensive than canteen food, their taste and quality justify the cost. PB also sells sides like mushroom soup, curly fries and chicken katsu sandwiches, which are perfect for an afternoon snack. If you’re feeling thirsty, you can get some Gong Cha drinks from PB at an affordable price. There is brown sugar milk tea, fruit tea, and even homemade drinks like lemonade and fruit punch!
After your meal, you might want some dessert. In that case, you should try the sugary chilled desserts from PB. They’re definitely worth their price. What makes PB special is that its menu changes daily, making sure that you get to try new dishes every time you swing by!
Conclusion
We hope this 3-part series, which uncovers spots around RI, has been helpful in guiding you through RI. However, don’t leave us just yet! Stay tuned, as we will be back with in-depth guides to the Rafflesian Lifestyle, the Canteen, and even our school toilets!
