Everywhere there are signs

By

“Certain signs are the forerunners of certain events.”

– Marcus Tullius Cicero, Roman philosopher

In this project, we wanted to inject some humour into the school environment which can normally be seen as dull and dreary, showing how we can always see the lighter side of things. The school signs are normally a commanding representation of the school’s authority, so by reinterpreting them humorously, this subversion of expectations can be effectively accomplished.

Teacher’s Comments:

This photo-essay was produced for a module titled Artistic Experiments with Space, under the Gap Semester Strand “Through Our Lenses”. The 3 students have responded to the brief of investigating how different spaces within the school could be presented differently, according to how the students are led to perceive by the design of the environment.

Note: Some of the photos have been staged for dramatic effect.
